The Cotswolds
Steeped in history and heritage, the area of England known as the Cotswolds is a charming blend of cottages with honey-coloured walls and thatched roofs, market towns with crooked half-timbered houses lining the High Street, and ancient stone crosses, all set in the gently rolling hills ('wolds') that are so typically English in character.

Stratford upon Avon
We then travel through the rolling Warwickshire hills to Stratford upon Avon, a market town at the edge of the Forest of Arden made famous for being the birthplace of the world-famous playwright William Shakespeare.

Paris was created some 2000 years ago and began at the Cite Island (Ile de la Cite). With emphasis on the history and art of the Capital this tour includes: a drive through the oldest part: the Marais district and its "hotels", private town-houses of the nobility 3 or 4 centuries ago, the Latin Quarter with the Sorbonne, the Luxembourg gardens, Saint-Germain-des-Pres district with its old church and its famous cafes, a guided visit to the interior of Notre-Dame Cathedral* and a short short transfer by boat to approach and leave the Cite Island (unless the river is too high). Before returning back to Place des Pyramides, you will admire the rigorous geometry of the Vendome Square and the surprising architecture of the "Garnier" Opera, near the department stores.

After departure we will cross the city and take the Autostrada del Sole, a major Italian highway, northbound and pass through some of Italy’s most beautiful regions including Lazio, Umbria and Toscana.
We will arrive in Florence at approximately 11:30 am. The tour of the city will include the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore with Giotto’s bell tower and baptistery. We will visit the Academy with Michelangelo’s famous "David," and see della Signoria’s Square and Palace. Lunch in a typical restaurant will follow.

In the afternoon the tour will proceed to the Piazza Santa Croce. You will then have free time at your disposal.

After this, a drive will take us to Piazzale Michelangelo, where we can see a magnificent view of this Renaissance city - including the Ponte Vecchio.

We will depart for Rome at approximate 5:00 pm. Our return arrival in Rome is scheduled for 8:30 pm - traffic permitting. Travelers will be returned to their hotels or immediate vicinity.

We will depart Rome by deluxe motorcoach along the Autostrada del Sole. After passing the Castelli Romani- the wine-producing hill towns to the southeast of Rome- and see hillsides completely covered by vineyards, we will cross the region of Ciociaria. We’ll have a view (from the coach) of the Abbey of Montecassino, which was completely rebuilt after World War II.
Upon arrival in Naples we will enjoy a view of the city.

Next we will continue on to Pompeii, where after lunch in a local restaurant, we will visit the excavations of this famous Roman city that was completely destroyed by the volcanic eruption of Mt. Vesuvus in 79 A.D.

We will depart for Rome at approximately 5:30pm.

Return arrival in Rome is scheduled for 9:30pm - traffic permitting. Travelers will be returned to their hotels or immediate vicinity.

Wales’ largest fortress, the 13th-century Caerphilly Castle, one of the greatest surviving medieval castles in Britain. With its massive gatehouses and water defences, its design heavily influenced the course of medieval architecture and is one of the truly great strongholds of medieval Europe. Working replicas of siege engines are on display. Guided tour of the castle.

The Brecon Beacons National Park is a jewel in the crown of the UK's protected landscapes. It boasts some of the most spectacular upland formations in southern Britain, yet still remains one of the UK's best kept secrets. We travel along the mountain road through the village of Ystradfellte, descend into the head of the scenic Senni valley. The tour delivers diverse landscapes from lush wooded valleys and gentle rolling hills to craggy mountains and imposing reservoirs, and grazing Welsh Black cattle, Welsh Mountain ponies and plenty of sheep.

Lunch stop at Libanus Visitors' Centre, built on the ancient common of Mynydd Illtud, offering superb views over the common to the Beacons and Fforest Fawr, and Pen-y-Fan, the highest mountain in southern Britain.

The historical market town of Brecon, positioned on the banks of the River Usk and confluence of the Rivers Honddu and Tarrell Brecon evokes its historical past in many ways. Grand Georgian architecture lies around nearly every corner of its narrow winding streets, its ancient cathedral dating back from Norman times, and home to the terminus of the Monmouth and Brecon Canal.

Castell Coch, (The Red Castle), the former hunting lodge of the Marquis of Bute, sited on a craggy limestone escarpment in the quaint village of Tongwynlais. The Victorian architect William Burges was commissioned by the 3rd Marquis of Bute to re-create a castle from the earlier foundations of a medieval structure. Stone cobbled courtyard, exquisite wooded carvings cover the interior, and lavishly furnished rooms. Guided tour of the castle. (Exterior castle tour only in January & February 2010).

Westminster Abbey and Parliament Square
The tour begins with a panoramic drive around parliament Square, to see Westminster Abbey, where many of our Kings, Queens, Statesmen, poets and writers are buried. See Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.

London's West End, Buckingham Palace and the Changing of the Guard
Enjoy a fascinating panoramic tour, seeing Trafalgar Square, Downing Street, London's Theatre District and Piccadilly Circus.
Then to Buckingham Palace to see the colourful ceremony of the Changing of the Guard. We will then have a chance to enjoy lunch at a traditional London Pub.

St Paul's Cathedral
A guided tour of Sir Christopher Wren's masterpiece – St Paul's Cathedral - crowned by the magnificent dome that is so much a part of the London skyline. The Cathedral was rebuilt after the Great Fire of London in 1666. In recent years it has seen the wedding of Charles, Prince of Wales, to Lady Diana Spencer and, most recently, the thanksgiving services for both the Golden Jubilee and 80th Birthday of Her Majesty the Queen.

The Tower of London and Crown Jewels
Founded by William the Conqueror in 1066-7 and enlarged by successive sovereigns, the Tower of London is one of the is one of the world's most famous and spectacular fortresses. Over the past 1000 years it has been a Royal Palace, an armoury and a place of imprisonment and execution. The Beefeaters who guard the Tower will regale you with stories of its past. We will visit the Crown Jewels, including the magnificent solid-gold crown used at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, the enormous Cullinan diamonds and the extraordinary Koh-i-Noor.

Finally, enjoy a River Thames cruise from the Tower of London.

Sunday in London
Due to church services, St Paul's Cathedral is closed to visitors on Sunday. We will stop for photographs and spend longer in the Tower of London.

Medieval Warwick Castle
We take you back through Warwick Castle's 1,000 year history to a time of bloody battles, extravagant banquets and royal ceremony. Visit the Madame Tussaud's waxworks display where you can hear the Earl of Warwick as he prepares for battle. See the gruesome dungeons where prisoners were tortured. Alternatively, you might like to stroll through the Castle's lovingly tended gardens.

Stratford upon Avon
Birthplace of William Shakespeare: if you have ever used the expression: 'Too much of a good thing', 'Come what may' or 'Laughing stock,' you are quoting the great playwright. We will visit his Birthplace, and will gain a fascinating insight into his life.


The Cotswolds
We drive through one of the most scenic areas of England, the Cotswolds. Passing through charming villages with thatched cottages, tea shops and ancient inns.

Oxford
The colleges in Oxford date back to the 13th century and among its famous students were Bill Clinton, C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkein and Lewis Carroll. We take you on a fascinating walking tour through the cobbled streets of Oxford to see the Bodleian Library and the picture-perfect college courtyards, for which Oxford is justifiably famous.

A town steeped in history. In 75 AD, Isca Silurum, was established as a permanent garrison for the Second Augustan Legion at 5,600 strong, now called Caerleon, which translates to 'Fort of the Legions'. This area hides a wealth of Roman remains, along with Chester and York, Caerleon was one of the principle Roman military bases in Britain. The elite of the Roman army were based here, in what became a large Roman town. The extent of the remains here are impressive and Britain's most revealing Roman site. Guided tour of amphitheatre built in 90AD, Fortress Baths, and museum.
Our journey from Caerleon travels the route used by stagecoach passengers before railroads were built, along narrow roads with quaint stone cottages and coaching inns to our next stop, 5-star Celtic Manor Resort, host of the prestigious 2010 Ryder Cup (exterior view).
Built on the banks of the River Wye, Chepstow has the distinction of being the first castle in Britain to be constructed of stone, founded in 1067AD. Medieval town walls enclose Chepstow's narrow streets and the main road is straddled by the battlemented 13th century town gate which adds further to the town's charming historic character. The Wye Valley, is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Visit in spring and you will find woods carpeted with bluebells, wild garlic and wood anemones, summer time the meadows come alive with wild flowers and autumn's cascade of golden colours. LUNCH STOP: Tintern Parva, a riverside village which nestles amongst the wooded slopes of the Wye Valley.

13th-century Tintern Abbey is one of the UK's top attractions. The medieval builders did an amazing job, truly a masterpiece of decorated Gothic architecture. The Cistercian abbey, now a majestic ruin, was founded in 1131 by Walter de Clare and was active until the Dissolution of the Monasteries enacted by King Henry VIII. It is easy to see why this abbey, in its splendid setting, inspired poetry from William Wordsworth and was painted by Turner. Guided tour of the Abbey.
