As well as a full day at the Chelsea Flower Show, this tour includes the gardens of southwest England featuring the Garden House, the Lost Gardens of Heligan, the Eden Project, Lanhydrock House and Gardens, the cliffside garden at the Minack Theatre, St Michael’s Mount, Rosemoor – the most westerly R.H.S. garden and several other private gardens such as Tregothan Tea Plantation.

What to Expect

This tour will be hosted by Marjorie Mason, Jeff Mason and Paul Zammit.

This large coach group tour will operate with a max of 30 passengers on a 54 seater coach.

You can expect time on your feet as much of this tour is spent visiting rather than driving. 

About Marjorie Mason:

Marjorie Mason is an enthusiastic gardener who enjoys sharing her ideas with others. She started gardening at a very early age on her parents’ market garden farm near Peterborough.

Marjorie has lectured across Canada and the U.S. on a wide variety of topics. In addition to authoring “Amazing Annuals” in 1999, she has written articles for Canadian Living, Canadian Gardening, Harrowsmith, Canadian Wildlife Federation, and Landscape Ontario magazines. In 1990, she was given the Garden Communicator of the Year Award by Landscape Ontario. Marjorie hosts “Let’s Get Growing” Saturday mornings (March to October) from 9-10am on 1580 CKDO and 107.7 FM.

Marjorie has traveled extensively, taking gardeners to outstanding gardens throughout the British Isles, Europe, New Zealand and North America. She has hosted garden tours since 1985. 

About Paul Zammit:

Paul Zammit, is a graduate of the University of Guelph and is a professor of Horticulture at Niagara College.  Prior to joining the faculty, Paul held the position of the Director of Horticulture at the Toronto Botanical Garden for 10 years.  He is a passionate and energetic gardener and lover of nature who has been delivering presentations across Canada, throughout the US and internationally in countries such as Switzerland, Germany, Bermuda and South Africa for over 30 years.  Paul is also an avid photographer.  For the past six years, Paul has been providing gardening advice on the CBC Here and Now radio program.  In 2017, Garden Making magazine selected Paul and his wife as two of Canada’s top 20 people shaping gardens across Canada.    Paul has been the recipient of a number of awards including  the 2019 and the 2021 Garden Communicator of the Year award from Landscape Ontario.

Day 2 - Tuesday, May 17thArrive London Gatwick: Welcome to England!

Arrive London Gatwick Airport at 10:45am.

Depart for Devon with a lunch stop and walk-about enroute. Arrive at Bovey Castle Hotel in Dartmoor National Park in time for dinner and a 2 night stay. (D)

Day 3 - Wednesday, May 18thThe Garden House, Wildside

After breakfast we visit The Garden House with its 10 acres of garden rooms followed by Wildside – the amazing garden of Keith Wiley which is an “experiment in new naturalism.” Return to Bovey Castle. (B, D)

Day 4 - Thursday, May 19thLost Gardens of Heligan

After breakfast, we depart this morning for the Lost Gardens of Heligan. After a leisurely visit we will continue to the Gannet Hotel in Carbis Bay for 3 nights (B, D)

Day 5 - Friday, May 20thMinack Theatre, Land’s End, Botallack Mines, St. Ives

Visit the most amazing rock garden you will ever see at the Minack Theatre. We proceed to Land’s End for a photo stop before travelling on to the Botallack Mines used in the series Poldark! Continue to St. Ives with free time to explore this seaside town. You may wish to visit the Tate Gallery or the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden. Dinner this evening is on your own – you can choose to stay in St. Ives, return to Carbis Bay by coach or perhaps you would enjoy the 1.5 mile walk along the Southwest Coast Path. (B)

Day 6 - Saturday, May 21stPenzance, St. Michaels Mount, Mousehole

A unique experience today. We travel to Penzance to walk across the sea at low tide to visit St. Michaels Mount – and remember to return before high tide! Time to pay a visit to the tiny fishing village of Mousehole before returning to the hotel. (B, D)

Day 7 - Sunday, May 22ndHidden Valley Gardens, Lanhydrock

This morning, after breakfast, we make our way to Hidden Valley Gardens a Royal Horticultural Society Partner Garden. On to Lanhydrock, a National Trust property, where we will enjoy not only the gardens but also the house – both “upstairs and downstairs”. Travel to our next hotel – the renovated “ Bodmin Jail Hotel – a new experience in hotels, where we will spend 3 nights. (B, D)

Day 8 - Monday, May 23rdTregothan Tea Plantation, Eden Project

A surprise today – we tour a tea plantation right in Cornwall with the perfect climate for producing tea. Following the tour, we’ll enjoy lunch here. Continue on to the world famous Eden Project – we will spend the entire afternoon here as there is so much to see! Return to Bodmin where dinner will be on your own – some may wish to visit the Jail Museum. Back to the Bodmin Jail hotel. (B, L)

Day 9 - Tuesday, May 24thPencarrow House and Gardens, Port Isaac

After breakfast visit Pencarrow House and Gardens before travelling on to the coastal village of Port Isaac perhaps better known to you as Portwen the location for the TV show, Doc Martin. It is also the home of the popular singing group “Fisherman’s Friends’. Back to Bodmin for our final night in the Bodmin Jail hotel! (B, D)

Day 10 - Wednesday, May 25thRHS Garden Rosemoor, Bath

Breakfast. This morning we will bid farewell to Cornwall and proceed to the most westerly of the RHS gardens – Rosemoor at Torrington, Devon. Following our visit we will depart for Bath, arriving in time for a walk about in this historic city before we check in to the Bailbrook Hotel for 1 night. (B, D)

Day 11 - Thursday, May 26thIford Manor Gardens, Bombay Sapphire Distillery

After breakfast we begin today with a visit to Iford Manor Gardens created by Edwardian designer Harold Peto. Travel to the Bombay Sapphire Distillery built on the site of the Laverstoke Mill. You may have seen the restoration on television and marveled at the construction of the unique greenhouse which houses the botanicals for the gin production. On to the Hoxton Hotel, Southwark in London. (B, D)

Day 12 - Friday, May 27thChelsea Flower Show

Breakfast and then the highlight of the tour – the Chelsea Flower Show! We will spend the whole day here and then return to our hotel to recoup, marveling at all we have seen. Overnight The Hoxton Hotel in London. (B, D)

Day 13 - Saturday, May 28thLondon, RHS Wisley

After surveying some of the public gardens in London i.e., the Olympic Stadium we will proceed to an afternoon visit to RHS Wisley. Then on to our final hotel the Gatwick Airport (n.b. If some of you would prefer a free day to explore London or meet friends and relatives, you would need to make a train connection to Gatwick Airport and the hotel.) (B)
