What to Expect

This tour will be led by Stewart Bennett, the owner of “The Wee Tartan Shop” in Port Perry.

This large coach group tour will operate with a minimum of 20 passengers, max of 30 passengers on a 53 seater coach.

You can expect time on your feet as much of this tour is spent visiting rather than driving. 

Itinerary

Day 1 - Tuesday, August 23rdDepart Toronto

Depart Toronto on Air Transat flight TS244 at 7:15pm.

Day 2 - Wednesday, August 24thArrive Glasgow: Welcome to Scotland!

Arrive Glasgow Airport at 6:50am.

After an early arrival we spend time in the Falkirk area visiting the Falkirk Wheel, opened in 2002 as a unique connection for shipping between the Firth and Clyde canals, and the nearby Kelpie statues opened in 2008 as a tribute to the role of horses in Scottish history. As a contrast we also visit the Scottish Fine Soap company before travelling on to Edinburgh for dinner and our 2 night stay at the Apex Grassmarket hotel.  (D)

Day 3 - Thursday, August 25thEdinburgh City Tour, Edinburgh Castle, The Royal Military Tattoo

Today a tour of the city of Edinburgh including a visit to the historic Edinburgh Castle. This evening, a major highlight, with reserved seats to the world-famous Edinburgh Tattoo.  (B, D)

Day 4 - Friday, August 26thRosslyn Chapel, Dumfries House, Stirling

After breakfast, we depart Edinburgh and drive south with our first stop the famous, 15th century Rosslyn Chapel. Explore inside the Chapel and discover the hidden treasures. Beneath the floor is a massive underground vault. Continuing on into Ayrshire, we visit the beautiful Dumfries House in Cumnock for a tour and lunch. This large estate is part of The Prince’s Foundation. Then back northwards to Stirling where we stay for 3 nights at the Stirling Highland Hotel. (B, L, D)

Day 5 - Saturday, August 27thLoch Lomond, Bannockburn

After breakfast, we drive to the “Bonnie Banks” before enjoying a cruise on Loch Lomond followed by lunch at the 18th century Winnock Hotel. In the afternoon we visit Bannockburn, site of the battle between the Scots and the English in 1314. (B, L, D)

Day 6 - Sunday, August 28thStirling

This morning we will enjoy a walking tour of old Stirling followed by a guided tour of Stirling Castle. The afternoon is free time in Stirling. You could go for a walk to Cambuskenneth Abbey or enjoy a local pub, dinner on you own. (B)

Day 7 - Monday, August 29thGlencoe, Fort William, Commando Monument

After breakfast we depart Stirling and make a stop at the “Green Welly’ (!) on our way to Glencoe, perhaps Scotland’s most scenic, most famous and most historic glen. We visit Fort William and the Commando Monument. The Commando Memorial is dedicated to the men of the original British Commando Forces raised during World War II. We then travel on towards Inverness and the Achnagairn Castle Estate in Kikhill where we stay for 3 nights. (B, D)

Day 8 - Tuesday, August 30thFalls if Shin, the Mermaid of the North, Beauly Priory

After breakfast we drive north along the east coast, with many photostops, towards Dornoch. During the day we will visit the beautiful Falls of Shin, the Mermaid of the North and Beauly Priory. The Mermaid of the North is part of the Seaboard Sculpture Trail. Her tail submerges into the water during high tide. (B, D)

Day 9 - Wednesday, August 31stJacobite Cruise, Urquart Castle, Culloden, Clava Cairns

Breakfast. Today a Jacobite Cruise and a visit to Urquart Castle on Loch Ness with time for a picnic, weather permitting. Watch for Nessie! Urquhart Castle is one of the largest ruins in Scotland. In the afternoon the battlefield of Culloden. The Visitor Center is well worth a visit. We then go to pre-historic Clava Cairns. This circular chamber tomb is named after a group of three cairns. (B, D)

Day 10 - Thursday, September 1stCarr Bridge, Ruthven Barracks, Dalwhinnie Distillery, Pitlochry

Breakfast. Returning Southwards today we visit Carr Bridge, Ruthven Barracks, Dalwhinnie Distillery and Pitlochrie on our way to Glasgow where we check into the Grand Central hotel for 2 nights. (B, D)

Day 11 - Friday, September 2nd Isle of Bute

After breakfast we travel, by coach and ferry, to the Isle of Bute and a visit to Mount Stuart house and gardens. (B, D)

Day 12 - Saturday, September 3rdGlasgow

Breakfast. Enjoy a free day in Glasgow with an on/off bus pass. Perhaps visit Pollok Country Park, Glasgow Botanic Gardens, enjoy some live music, shopping on Buchanan Street or visit the Cathedral.  Tonight, enjoy a special farewell dinner and entertainment. Overnight at the Holiday Inn, Glasgow Airport. (B, D)

Day 13 - Sunday, September 4thDepart Glasgow

Depart Glasgow Airport on flight TS245 at 8:35am, arriving Toronto at 11:00am. (B)

The final payment is due June 23rd.

Cancellation Policy:
50% is non-refundable up to 31 days prior
