There’s an old Welsh saying; “the best shortage is a shortage of words”.

And we can understand why.

Because when you travel through Snowdonia, the beautiful mountains leave you speechless. The Welsh castles’ battle-torn passageways are simply indescribable. And a lot of the destinations are as unpronounceable as they’re unbelievable.

So, on this trip, you take a relaxing rail journey from London to Manchester and join our mini-coach heading to the best bits of North Wales.

You venture through the inexpressibly beautiful valleys of a famous national park; discover a town designed like an Italian village; and learn about Chester, an English town first settled by the Romans.

Let the sights speak for themselves and join our tour of North Wales and Chester.

Itinerary

Day 1London - Manchester

Start your day with a high-speed rail journey to the city of Manchester where you join your mini-coach for the next three days. Once on board, you leave Manchester behind and head straight for the border of Wales.

Your first stop of the day is Conwy. This little town deserves to win awards for most picture-perfect harbour town. There’s a castle perched by the sea, the ‘world’s smallest house’, and lots of little restaurants boasting the best fish and chips.

After you’ve soaked up the sea air, you travel to the Llanberis Slate Museum. It’s a little less cute here, but the history of the second largest slate mine on the planet will stay in your memory for a long time.

Beddgelert in Snowdonia is your next stop. This place is known as the most ‘lovely’ village in Snowdonia. And you must agree, the stone houses and arched bridge are simply beautiful.

You travel through Snowdonia as the light softens and arrive at your overnight stop in Caernarfon in the evening.

Day 2Caernarfon

This morning, you can either stay in Caernarfon to explore the magnificent castle or join us as we head onto the Isle of Anglesey.

If you choose to come with us, you cross the world’s first modern day suspension bridge across the Menai Straits and onto Anglesey Island. Prior to its construction, cattle farmers would have to persuade their herd to swim across the Menai Straits on their way to market.

We head for the most westerly point of North Wales to marvel at the South Stack Lighthouse, sea cliffs, and nature reserve.

After a refreshing walk along the cliffs, we travel to Llynnon Mill, the last working windmill in Wales. This outstanding example of a Welsh windmill has been milling wheat since 1775 and gives you a unique insight into long forgotten era.

You return to Caernarfon for a quick lunch stop where anyone who stayed in town can join us as we venture to one of the most charming and unique villages in Wales, Portmeirion.

This town is the brainchild of Welsh architect Clough Williams-Ellis. He wanted to demonstrate how a naturally beautiful location could be developed without spoiling it. The result is a stunning piece of the Mediterranean transported into North Wales.

You arrive back in Caernarfon in the early evening. (B)

Day 3Caernarfon - London

Your first task of the day is to watch Snowdonia’s mountains fly by as you head to Harlech Castle. This is one of our favourite castles in the whole of the UK. It boasts epic sea views and an amazingly war-torn history that involves a lot of dynamite.

You stop for lunch in the little village of Betws-Y-Coed before heading to one of England’s most historic towns, Chester. There’s a lot to do here, but we’d advise you just head to the Cathedral, you could spend a whole week in this fine building and not get bored.

You arrive in Manchester in the evening where you join the express train service back to London Euston. (B)
