So, on this tour, jump on the fast morning train to Manchester, board your mini-coach, and find out what’s so special about the North.

What to Expect

Explore in 16 seat mini-coaches, always taking the scenic route, you have great views through large windows, and you’re free to sample the local tipple without worrying about driving. Our driver-guides are famous for their knowledge, facts, quirky stories, history, and fairy-tales. They truly take you beyond the guidebooks and into your adventure. You make your trip your own. We provide the timetable; and you can choose where you want to eat and which attractions you pay to see. So, if you want to skip a castle and read your book by a mountain view, you can.

Itinerary

Day 1London - Manchester

It’s time to leave the big city behind and travel to the Peak District.

You transfer in Manchester from your train to our mini-coach, and in the late morning, you arrive in Castleton. This quaint old town attracts travellers from all over the world for its quintessential English charm. Nearby, there are caves, a beautiful view up a valley, and an insightful information centre.

You then venture to another beautiful valley at Monsal Head. There’s an old rail line viaduct that emerges from the green hills. It’s a gorgeous structure with an impressive history.

If you’re hungry, then you’re in luck, because you’re stopping for lunch in Bakewell. Not only is this town delicious to look at, but it’s also the home of one of England’s most famous desserts, the Bakewell Tart.

You should ensure you’ve cleaned up the crumbs, because now you’re heading to Chatsworth House. This luxurious stately home is incredible; you can admire architecture, get lost in a massive maze, or praise precious art.

You head off in the early evening to your overnight stop in York.

Day 2York

You spend this morning in York. You can visit a chocolate museum, find out about the Vikings, or even just stroll around the ancient walls.

Around midday, you leave York and head to Goathland. This town was used in the Harry Potter movies and is situated in one of the largest expanses of heather moorland in the UK.

Your next stop is Whitby. This is the type of town everyone dreams of retiring in. There’s a beautifully-located, ruined abbey; old stone steps curving around viewpoints; and a lovely little beach to play about on.

After exploring all the nooks and crannies of Whitby, you travel to Robin Hood’s Bay. They doubt if the real Robin Hood ever came here, but there are still plenty of smugglers tales dotted around this remarkable harbour village.

You arrive back in York in the early evening. (B)

Day 3York - London

It’s time to say goodbye to York, England’s capital of Vikings and chocolate.

And although it’s your last day, there’s still plenty more to see. You first take the road to Fountains Abbey. This is one of the largest ruined abbeys in England and part of an important UNESCO Heritage site.

You then find yourself surrounded by some of England’s most lovely waterfalls at Aysgarth.

Now, there’s a delicious lunch for you, because you’re travelling around Wensleydale, home of England’s most famous cheese. Just make sure you have some crackers, so you can eat it the authentic way.

You travel past the epic Ribblehead railway viaduct before having a short snoop around the old castle-topped town of Clitheroe.

You arrive in Manchester in the evening where you join the express train service back to London Euston. (B)

Mobility: All of our tours involve walking and require our guests to board and disembark our vehicles several times a day making this tour unsuitable for those with reduced mobility.

Luggage: You’re restricted to 14kg (31lbs) of luggage per person. This should be one piece of luggage similar to an airline carry-on bag (approximately 55cm x 45cm x 25cm / 22in x 17in x 10in) and a small bag for onboard personal items.
