Wartime London

For 76 consecutive nights between September and November 1940, the city of London was relentlessly bombed by the German Luftwaffe in a series of devastating raids that came to known as ‘The Blitz’.

A third of the city was destroyed, and tens of thousands of civilians lost their lives. While Hitler’s attempt to bomb Britain into submission would ultimately fail, the scars of this destructive campaign remain visible on the streets of London today.

On this fascinating tour, you’ll get to see visible signs of bomb damage from the war and visit the site of the very first bomb that landed in London. You’ll see the ruins of a church that was destroyed during the Blitz and left to time as a memorial to the bloodshed, as well as important Allied wartime headquarters.

See where Sir Winston Churchill delivered his famous VE Day speech, and where Dwight D. Eisenhower, Supreme Allied Commander, plotted the downfall of the Third Reich.

Lunch Break

The first part of your Experience will finish at Trafalgar Square at approximately 12:00 pm. Enjoy the sights and grab a spot of lunch nearby before making your way to the Concierge Desk at St Ermin’s Hotel (2 Caxton St., London, SW1H 0QW) to meet your expert guide for the next leg of your experience – a fascinating look at the secret world of Cold War London.

Spy & Espionage Experience

For decades MI5, MI6 and GCHQ pitted themselves against the KGB in a silent war that played out on the streets of London. In a very literal sense, the British capital quickly became a crucial battleground in the Cold War against Russia.

On this part of your tour, you’ll hear a tale of tragedy, betrayal, and eventual triumph. You’ll explore this shadowy world with an expert guide and gain an insight into Britain’s top intelligence agencies and learn about how they help to protect the country.

See the home of MI6, the home of James Bond 007, the headquarters of MI5 and visit the public’ dead drop’ sites where turncoat spies exchanged top-secret information with the Soviets. You’ll also discover the secret locations used by the intelligence services to recruit their agents, and hear how they were recruited.

Prepare to be shaken and stirred by the stories of some of Britain’s most infamous traitors and double agents on this insightful tour into Cold War London.

Tour Ends:Approx. 4:30pm, London Victoria Train Station

Your Tour will finish outside London Victoria Train Station, centrally located and easily accessible by national rail and underground, it is serviced by the Victoria, District and Circle Lines and is in Travel Zone 1.
