In Wales, history and myth are intertwined, and it seems every hill and castle has its own legend. That’s what makes visiting so captivating: you go beyond the obvious and touch the country’s spirit. To us, Caerphilly Castle is more than a romantic ruin; it’s a stronghold steeped in tales of hidden treasure. The rugged Brecon Beacons echo the legends of King Arthur, while Tintern Abbey still enchants readers centuries after Wordsworth’s verse. Embark on a day filled with beauty, myth, and history in a land where the ordinary feels dream-like and lingers in your memory long after you leave.

Itinerary

Journey to Wales and Caerphilly Castle

We say goodbye to the urban bustle of Bristol and cross the iconic Severn Bridge to a magical place: Wales. This captivating country is famed for its legendary castles, rugged mountains, scenic shores; and its melodic, consonant-rich language – the oldest living tongue in Great Britain.

Free time to explore Caerphilly Castle

It’s time to journey into the past as you cross the moat to explore the mighty walls and ramparts of Caerphilly Castle – the largest fortress in Wales. Wander through the grand halls, listen to the ancient echoes and be on the lookout for the ghost of the Green Lady!

You leave the fortress with a head full of stories of warriors, kings, and restless spirits and head to the next stop: St Fagan’s National Museum of History.

St Fagans National Museum of History & Brecon

Step back in time at the unique St Fagans National Museum of History. This open-air museum of Welsh culture and architecture features historic buildings relocated and reconstructed to showcase life through the centuries. Explore traditional cottages, workshops, and visit St Fagans Castle and Gardens, a stunning Tudor manor with fascinating interiors.

Next, discover the dramatic landscapes of Brecon Beacons National Park (Bannau Brycheiniog). With windswept mountains, vast moorlands, and legends of giants, this place will stir your imagination. Then, we stop in the charming market town of Brecon, known for its Georgian architecture and scenic views where you can enjoy a walk or relax in a café, before continuing your journey.

Photo stop at Tintern Abbey and journey back to Bristol

Continue your journey through the national park, surrounded by breathtaking mountain views and rolling hills, as you make your way to the picturesque Wye Valley.

Nestled in the heart of the valley lies the tranquil village of Tintern, famously home to Tintern Abbey. Take in the view of the romantic ruins of this Cistercian monastery, which inspired poems by William Wordsworth and Alfred Lord Tennyson, as well as paintings by JMW Turner.

Then it’s time to relax and bid hwyl fawr to Cymru, returning to Bristol with your heart full of memories of breathtaking landscapes, ancient legends, and unforgettable moments.
