Itinerary

Day 1Oban, Glencoe & Mallaig

Leaving Glasgow behind, we head north and watch the landscape transform as we cross the Highland Boundary Line. The rolling Lowlands gradually give way to the rugged, forested glens of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park.

We’ll pause for a wee break, giving you time to stretch your legs and capture photographs of Loch Lomond before continuing our journey. From here, Highland roads wind through the steep‑sided mountains of the Arrochar Alps and lead us to the iconic viewpoint at the Rest and Be Thankful mountain pass.

Next, you continue west towards the charming harbour town of Oban, known as the “Gateway to the Isles” and famed for its fresh seafood. As you arrive, the sweep of the bay and the Victorian waterfront set the scene for a relaxed break

Enjoy free time in Oban to stroll along the promenade and soak up the atmosphere. Then pick a place for lunch – seafood would be our favourite.

Next, head to Glencoe, one of Scotland’s most iconic landscapes, where dramatic mountains and wide valleys are steeped in history. Pause to take in the view – the glen even featured in scenes around Hagrid’s hut.

Glenfinnan, a stunning glen overlooking Loch Shiel, is your next stop. Here you’ll find the iconic Monument and the Viaduct, beloved by Harry Potter fans. Reflect on the Jacobite history, admire the graceful viaduct and imagine the Hogwarts Express passing by, or enjoy the views of the loch featured in The Prisoner of Azkaban.

Back on the mini-coach, you’ll travel through gentle valleys, open moorland, and past dark, mysterious lochs. Keep your eyes peeled – you may even spot Dumbledore’s grave island as we drive along the shores of Loch Eilt.

Your base for the night is the charming fishing village of Mallaig, which you can explore at your leisure. Enjoy a peaceful walk around the harbour with views of Skye, savour fresh seafood at one of the local restaurants, or relax with a dram in a cosy pub while soaking up the village atmosphere.

Your overnight accommodation will be in Mallaig.

Day 2Silver Sands of Morar & the Jacobite Steam Train

Waking up in your base out on the West Coast, you make the most of the region’s pristine beaches and head to the Silver Sands of Morar. This unspoiled beach, with powdery white sand and crystal-clear waters, could easily be mistaken for a Caribbean paradise and is the perfect spot for a peaceful stroll along the shore.

All that fresh air must have worked up your appetite, so you continue to Arisaig, a small and picturesque coastal village known for its white‑painted buildings and tranquil harbour. Take a wander along the waterfront to enjoy the sea views, get a snack from a local cafe, or pop into the Land, Sea & Islands Centre – a welcoming heritage hub that showcases local history, traditional crafts, and the area’s rich wildlife.

The anticipation builds as you arrive back in Mallaig, where you’ll soon board the famous Jacobite Steam Train. Before that, there’s time to enjoy lunch somewhere on the West Coast – the local fish and chips come highly recommended.

Board the world-famous Jacobite Steam Train, known as the real‑life Hogwarts Express, for a magical journey through some of the Highlands’ most dramatic scenery. Glide across the iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct, featured in the Harry Potter films, and enjoy sweeping views over Loch Shiel and the historic Jacobite Monument.

As the train follows the tranquil sea loch, the landscape opens out to reveal rugged peaks and sweeping moorland. Your journey ends with the sight of Ben Nevis as the train glides into Fort William, where your Driver‑Guide will be waiting to meet you outside the station.

Back on the mini-coach you travel south and soon, the peaks of Glencoe come into view, giving way to the wild expanses of Rannoch Moor.

Gradually, the dramatic peaks soften, and the moors give way to lush forests as you travel through Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. This land of lochs and mist‑shrouded hills was once home to the infamous outlaw Rob Roy MacGregor, whose legend still lingers in these glens.

You make a brief stop for refreshments before bidding farewell to the majestic Highland scenery, as the landscape transitions into the gentle hills and fertile farmlands of the Lowlands on your way to Glasgow. (B)
