Journey through Wessex to Runnymede

Experience the ancient past brought to life as you visit one of Britain’s most iconic historic sites – Stonehenge.

Departing from London, you journey through the heart of the ancient kingdom of Wessex, a major Anglo-Saxon realm that played a key part in bringing the country together as a single nation.

Runnymede

You stop on the way at Runnymede for some refreshments and a walk through a peaceful meadow which witnessed one of history’s most important events: the sealing of the Magna Carta by King John of England. This document started as a peace treaty between a king and his rebellious barons, but it went on to become the foundation of human rights around the world.

Stonehenge & Winchester

Your second stop is one of the most puzzling structures in Britain; Stonehenge. Was it an ancient temple, an astronomical calendar, or perhaps the work of Merlin’s magic? You’ll have a few hours to explore the visitor centre, eat lunch, and see the 5000-year-old stones. Will you uncover the mystery behind why this monument was built?

Next, journey to Winchester, the ancient capital of England, where history comes alive around every corner. Wander through charming, cobbled streets lined with timber-framed houses, and soak in the rich heritage of this remarkable city. And make sure to visit the awe-inspiring Winchester Cathedral, the resting place of Jane Austen.
