What to Expect

Explore in 16 seat mini-coaches, always taking the scenic route, you have great views through large windows, and you’re free to sample the local tipple without worrying about driving. Our driver-guides are world famous for their knowledge, facts, quirky stories, history, and fairy-tales. They truly take you beyond the guidebooks and into your adventure. You make your trip your own. We provide the timetable; and you can choose where you want to eat and which attractions you pay to see. So, if you want to skip a castle and read your book by a mountain view, you can.

Itinerary

Day 1Dunguaire Castle & The Cliffs of Moher

Departing Dublin, you travel west through the counties of Kildare and Offaly before arriving at the village of Tyrrellspass where you have time for a comfort break and a wander around the local stores before setting off again towards Kinvara.

You continue on your journey taking in the rolling countryside passing past the easternmost part of Galway Bay before arriving in Kinvara in time for Lunch.

The first stop of the afternoon is the attractive village of Kinvara, where you get a chance to take in the dramatic Dunguaire Castle and discover its remarkable historical legacy before stopping for a spot of lunch.

From here you head to the Burren. This is one of Ireland’s most arresting landscapes: a patchwork of glacial limestone pavements, rare flora and ancient stone monuments. The Burren was also home to one of the earliest Christian settlements in Ireland. You’ll stop here to visit Corcomroe Abbey, a 13th-century ruined monastery that sits against a backdrop of the Burren Mountain.

You’ll have time for a comfort break before setting off to the famous Cliffs of Moher. Along the way, your driver might make stops to showcase relics of the past, including the Poulnabrone Dolmen, a remarkable Neolithic monument. Next, you arrive at the Cliffs of Moher along the Wild Atlantic Way, where you can stroll the cliff trails or watch rare seabirds. Alternatively, if the cliffs don’t take you in, you can spend a little more time exploring the coastal town of Lahinch. After soaking in the beauty, you’ll head to Galway City for the night. With its great food and cosy pubs, Galway offers a lively end to your day – or a quiet place to rest for the adventures ahead.

Day 2Kylemore Abbey & the legendary Twelve Bens

Travel inland through the Maam Valley to the village of Cong in the heart of Ireland’s lake district. Rows and rows of traditional stone homes provided the setting for John Wayne film classic, “The Quiet man”. You’re free here to visit the local museum devoted to the movie, or discover the magnificently restored 12th-century Cong Abbey.

You continue through the heart of Connemara and as you venture onwards your driver will stop at local beauty spots or historical sights to ensure your journey is as enchanting as your destination! You see the dramatic rooftops peeking out among the trees as Kylemore Abbey emerges and you arrive just ready to go exploring…

The beautiful monastery at Kylemore Abbey is truly something to behold. Picture grand buildings and magnificent Victorian gardens that jumped off the pages of a storybook. A treat for both the eyes and soul. Next we hit the road again and on the nicer days will take a comfort break and enjoy the viewing point in Connemara National Park, with its incredible mountain landscapes before heading on to our last stop of the day.

It’s time to drop into the quaint coastal town of Clifden, famous for being the location of the first transatlantic flight landing. In the spirit of the place this will be a ‘flying’ visit but there is enough time to get some refreshments, do a little shopping and take in the atmosphere of this classic Irish town. On the drive home for the evening you’ll also enjoy the majesty of the Sky Road, as well as the sharp peaks of the Twelve Bens of Connemara. Now it’s time for night two in your cosy residence in Galway City.

Day 3Clonmacnoise & Kilbeggan Distillery

After a gentle start to the morning you get back on the road on your way to one of Ireland’s most beloved ruins and site of early Christian settlements. You’ll cross the breathtaking River Shannon over the bridge that gives this region its name, on the road to Clonmacnoise.

Founded in 544 by Saint Ciarán the site includes a host of significant early Christian sites including the two round towers that dominate this landscape next to the atmospheric ruined Cathedral. It’s an emotive experience walking in the footsteps of history among the churches, grave slabs and if you want to enhance your visit further you can check out the visitor center and view the giant high crosses on display. You say goodbye to Clonmacnoise and head back towards Shannonbridge for a spot of lunch.

Now that you have a full stomach after lunch it’s the perfect time to head to Kilbeggan Distillery for a dram or two! The oldest licensed distillery on the planet, here you can relax with a glass of their famed whisky; and grab a bottle to share with friends back home before you head back east to Dublin.

With a full heart, you return to Dublin, carrying three days’ worth of incredible memories to reflect on as the beautiful Irish countryside whizzes past. You’ll take a little bit of this magical place with you and have stories that will last a lifetime. (B)

Mobility: All of our tours involve walking and require our guests to board and disembark our vehicles several times a day making this tour unsuitable for those with reduced mobility.

Luggage: You’re restricted to 20kg (44lbs) of luggage per person. This should be one piece of luggage similar to an airline carry-on bag (approximately 55cm x 45cm x 25cm / 22in x 17in x 10in) and a small bag for onboard personal items.
